The Admiral's Cup 2025 | Channel Race Results - Sean Langman Interview

After a tough start to the Channel Race for both Australian boats, Back2Black and Zen came good in the second half of the race. Provisionally, Back2Black has placed 5th in AC Class 2 and Zen 76h in AC Class 1. The provisional team result is 6th out of the 15 teams. At time of writing, two boats were still at sea, but seem unlikely to change these results. We talked to Sean Langman shortly after Back2Black arrived back in the Cowes Yacht Haven. Thanks to the RORC for the overlay footage.

‘The tougher the job, the greater the reward’ is a popular aphorism that doesn’t always materialise. But after months of challenges and setbacks for Gordon Ketelbey’s team aboard the TP52 Zen, it seemed fitting that they posted a very solid result in the opening stanza of the Admiral’s Cup, taking 6th place on AC1 in the Channel Race overnight on Saturday/Sunday – missing 5th place by just one second!

Not that everything went smoothly, with work required on the rig early in the race, as Shane Guanaria explains in this interview.

The Admiral's Cup 2025 | Channel Race Results - Gordon Ketelbey Interview

Australian Gordon Ketelbey, the owner of the TP52 Zen has an indefatigable appetite for every form of yacht racing, participating in events all across the world. So, he’ll take an overnight offshore race entirely in his stride.

But given the numerous ups and downs of recent months that it’s taken to get Zen to the start line of yesterday’s Channel Race, he was evidently delighted with their very solid result of 6thplace in the AC1 Division.

And as you’ll hear in this interview Gordon is an owner who is well across the technical details too.

Stay tuned for more.
